Dual and Single Cannula Trach Tubes
Dual Cannula (with inner cannula): A dual cannula tracheostomy tube consists of the outer cannula, plus and inner cannula which is either re-usable or disposable. The inner tube can be removed and cleaned thus reducing the chance of blockage and facilitating management of tube obstruction. Tubes with an inner cannula are used in patients who have large amounts of secretions. Dual cannula tubes may be fenestrated or unfenestrated, cuffed or uncuffed.
Single Cannula (without inner cannula): Single cannula tubes maximize the inner diameter of the tube thereby increasing the airway. They can be either cuffed or uncuffed. Cuffed single cannula tubes are suitable for patients who are ventilator-dependent.
